Emma's Birth Story
I got pregnant with Emma in August of 2003. I was due on May 10th, 2004. I started to have contractions at 28 weeks. They were somewhat painless but I would feel them every 4 to 5 minutes. So I called the midwives and they had me come in to get checked. They would tank me up with water and then send me home. By 32 weeks they were getting worse and I would end up with a few hours of painful contractions that were 4-5 minutes apart. At 33 weeks I went in to get checked again and they found the baby was very low and I was dilated 2 cms. They watched me for a little bit and then sent me home once the contractions dissipated. I was getting very discouraged and was wondering how I would ever know that I was truly in labor.
At 34 weeks and 6 days I went in because the contractions were now 2-3 minutes apart and had been going on all afternoon. Once I got there they hooked me up to monitor and I was having contractions. But my cervix hadn’t changed. They decided to keep me overnight to make sure that I wouldn’t have to be transferred to Albany Med. At midnight it would have been safe to have the baby there at St. Mary’s. I made it through the night and was sent home the next morning. Three days later, at 35w2d, I was at church and started to feel contractions again. They became 2-3 minutes apart again but were lasting up to a minute now. I called the midwife on call and she had me come in. I still remember to this day that the contractions got worse on the 20 minute drive there. And I remember doubling over in pain on the elevator as we were going up. When I got in Margaret was there and she checked me. I was 2cm and had some effacement. She smiled at me and told me if I kept this up we would have a baby by nightfall. I stayed and walked around and after about 2 hours it all stopped again. I was becoming very frustrated at this point. I went home and was wondering if there was something wrong with my body. If there was a reason why I had all this start and stop labor. I cried a lot. That same night at around 11pm I started to get intense back pain that came in waves like contractions. They wouldn’t go away no matter how much I relaxed and continued to drown myself in water. They had me come in again and gave me a shot of Nubain so that I could get some sleep. I went home the next morning… still no baby.
About a week later I began to have a ton of pressure in my perineal area that would be come very intense while having contractions. So I went into the hospital again. This time I was long, thick, closed and posterior. I was seriously beside myself. I was beginning to feel like a dunce and I was wondering if the nurses were snickering at me behind my back. I was also trying to figure out how my cervix could have closed up and moved back up again. I went home defeated again.
One week and a day later I was 37w2d. I started to have some contractions on a Sunday. This time I decided to ignore them. They came and went all day Sunday and through the night. By Monday morning I called my mom crying and told her I was pretty sure that these felt different and that I would have a baby that day. She told me to get some more sleep. I rested for a little bit. By lunch time they had disappeared again. So my mom and I took my car to get the oil changed at Walmart. While we were there I started to get contractions that were more painful then any I had had yet. I would have to stop in the aisle and hang on to a shelf to get through them. After the oil was done in the car we went back to my mom’s house and she ran me a bath. I got in and tried to relax and tell myself that if this wasn’t it I would be able to get through another 3 weeks. These contractions didn’t stop. After 5 hours and at around 7pm I called the midwife on call. They told me to come in. I got there and I was 2cms. Progress from a week ago. But still, I wasn’t excited. They said that from the noise I was making and the way I was acting they were going to admit and have me try the Jacuzzi. I spent the whole night in the tub crying and wondering why it wasn’t progressing. I remember my mom being in the other room trying to entertain my husband. He was not really a support to me during this labor and delivery. Looking back I think he was still young and immature. At some point before daybreak on Tuesday the midwife, Michelle, that I see all the time and who was going to “special” me came in to check on me even though she wasn’t on call. She checked me and I was still only 2cms. But I had effaced some more. She suggested a shot of something even though she knew I didn’t want to use anything. The only thing I remember from dawn until lunchtime was them trying out two different medications and me being completely drunk and stupid off of them. I hated it. At lunch Michelle came in to check me again. I was still 2 cms. But it was obvious (I guess) that I was in labor. So even though I know she is not an advocate of them she offered me an epidural because she said I wasn’t coping anymore. I really struggled with this decision. But finally my mother told me that maybe I needed to let go of the ideal I had of birth. So in the epidural went. I had instant pain relief. I could finally breath. At this point they started pitocin. I didn’t care anymore since I had an epidural. All the rest of the day on Tuesday I laid in bed, ate and watched tv while they upped the pitocin. I never progressed past 3 cms.
Wednesday morning, I was now 37w5d, Michelle came in to check me and I was 4cm. She stripped my membranes and told me she’d be back at lunch. At lunchtime I was still 4 cm and she stripped my membranes again. At 4:30 she came up again to check me. Still 4 cms. She gave me one last offer. She told me that she could break my water but that if she did that and if I didn’t have a baby by the next morning I would be having a c-section. I okayed it because I had just had enough. At a little before 5 she broke my water and told me she was going to go eat dinner and would be back at 9pm to check me.
She wasn’t gone 15 minutes and I started to feel intense contractions and pressure even through my epidural. I had a window above my right hip that the epidural wasn’t even working on. I lost control and was screaming. My nurse came in to check me and her jaw hit the floor. She gasped and said “I think you’re complete.” I screamed “What!!??” pretty loudly. She dug around a little more and said “Nope you’re a 7 but I can stretch you to a 9.” She yelled to the other nurse to call Michelle back to the hospital.
Michelled walked back in between 5:30 and 6:00 I think (the times get muddled a little). She checked me and I think I was 8 at that point. By 7:00 I was complete and extremely pushy. All I remember about this part is that it was painful and seemed to last forever. I do remember I whined a lot. It wasn’t my finest hour ☹.
Finally after almost 2 and half hours of pushing Emma was born at 9:20. I remember at about 9:15 crying and asking when it would be over and Michelle said “I am pretty sure she will be born before 9:30!” She ended up being posterior with an asynclitic presentation
The things I recall about this birth are that, I was not as prepared as I should have been. I didn’t do much reading and I really didn’t take any childbirth classes. Things I hated about my birth were all the interventions. I hated that the most. It wasn’t how I had envisioned my baby’s birth. I was also very disappointed with how many nurses were in my room. I felt very much like I was on display. I hated that as well. It was way to bright in there and loud. The last two things that bothered me about it all was that my husband was a lousy support and I couldn’t have done it without my mother and my midwife.
The last thing about the whole affair that I wish I could change is that I failed at breasfeeding. In hindsight now I realize that I have very flat nipples and very fair skin. I was in so much pain. The LC at the hospital was a kook and the nurses all kept telling me that if I was doing it right it wouldn’t hurt. So after 5 days of nursing I quit.
I was very determined to make any of my future births different from this one. But I do remember feeling very empowered by the birth regardless of the measures that were taken to get her here.

Starting over again
So I have decided to start over on my blog. Not in a literal sense. I am going to start posting again and recording the journey of what I think will be my last pregnancy.
We found out at the beginning of December that I am pregnant with our 4th baby. It was planned and we are so happy that a new little one will be joining us this summer. I am secretly hoping for a little girl. But I will be happy with whatever God chooses to bless me with. We will also be having our first homebirth. This is what I am most excited about. I have wanted a homebirth since I was pregnant with Josiah. In fact if it hadn't been for the scare we had with Trisomy 18 and Down's, he would have been a homebirth. Then with Abby we were all set to have a homebirth but then found out our homebirth midwives would be out of town around the due date.
This go around I have found another homebirth midwife and will be having my first appointment with her next week. I can't wait! I am so excited to be able to form a relationship with the woman who will be attending my birth. Excited because I won't have to worry about which midwife will be on call for my birth because she is the one! I will have appointments with her monthly till 32 weeks then biweekly till 36 weeks then weekly. But these appointments will be an hour long as opposed to the short 15 min ones I have at the office I was currently going to.
I already met the apprentice midwife that works with the one I will be seeing. She is awesome and such a nice lady. She will be coming with me to my appointment. Now if I can just find babysitters for all these appointments I will be all set!!
My morning sickness is starting to dissipate I think. I am back to the point where I can eat without gagging but I still can't over do it. I have been craving a lot of fruits with this pregnancy. My favorite right now is grapefruit. If I could I would eat 3-4 a day! But since they aren't exactly cheap I try to limit it to 1-2 a day. Pete will be glad when I am able to cook for the family again and get the house back into order.
This week I will be having an ultrasound to check for a heartbeat for my own peace of mind. Because I have had a miscarriage in the past I tend to freak out until I see the baby and know that it is okay. I was going to try and go the pregnancy with only the 20 week ultrasound but I was having some anxiety over some cramping I was having. It will be nice to see the baby moving on the screen and see the little heart beating. It would also be nice to verify that there is only one little baby in there!
Well I think that does it for a little update. I will post about the ultrasound on Wednesday!

Hillbilly Shopping
Today I went grocery shopping with a two week menu and a list that had only what I absolutely needed on it... AHHH!
I actually didn't do too bad. I went to our local Aldi's and then to Walmart. Oh if only Walmart were as cheap as Aldi's! I did awesome at Aldi's. I got an overflowing cart for a little under my budget. But then when I went to Walmart to get the few things that were unavailable at Aldi's I blew the rest of my budget and more! It's so frustrating! And I didn't even buy diapers!!!
The menu was taken off of a website I found. www.hillbillyhousewife.com.
It was the menu under the $70 list. I think I did pretty good considering I couldn't find everything at the prices she does! One thing I have completely taken out of our menu is cereal. It is overpriced! And pretty unhealthy! So we will be replacing our breakfast meals with eggs, bacon, toast, oatmeal, pancakes, hot rice and anything else I can think of that doesn't involve sugar coated grains in a cardboard box!
---------
Well if you haven't figured it out yet. My blog is sort of shifting gears a bit. I found it hard to keep up with the blog on any kind of regular basis. But I have been having a bit of a transformation myself. So I thought I would document it.
Organizing and cleaning of the house is coming along. Although it does take some doing since the kids go back behind me and basically mess it all up! Laundry is a never ending task. And I seem to be cooking a lot. Especially since I have started making EVERYTHING we eat from scratch. I don't even buy bread from the store anymore. I am trying to honor Pete and frugally spend the money he works hard to earn. By doing that I am trying to find new and better ways to cook and save money on groceries. I have also started to sew a lot of my own clothes and intend to sew a bunch for the kids as well.
I like my new found enjoyment in homemaking. Taking care of my kids and awesome husband is a much better job than I had originally thought!

Rising with the chickens
In the last few weeks I have really been studying how I can be a better homemaker. A woman, wife and mother that God wants me to be.
It isn't easy! Especially with little ones. I haven't yet figured out how I am going to be able to get all I want to get done around my home, teach the kiddos and still have time for myself.
One goal I have had and am trying hard to stick to is not to be on the internet so much. When I am on the internet I am actually searching out ways to schedule our family, to clean my home, or just other little tidbits on home keeping and family raising. So in my mind I try to justify it that way! But it still takes up a lot of my time.
I have been trying to work on getting up when Pete gets up and be showered, quiet time done and ready to start my day when Emma wakes at 7am. But it is so hard when I am up late with Abby and I don't get a whole nights sleep! I do admit that on the days I am successful at getting up and ready before 7am I accomplish so much more. I feel so much more productive. The first week I did this I did so well. I got up when Pete got up and showered, dressed and prayed with Pete before he left for work. Then after he left I did my own quiet time and bible study before the kids woke up. That was three weeks ago. Now I am slowly slipping back into bad habits! I don't want to get up! I am so sleepy and I just want to go back to sleep! Last night there were thunderstorms all night that caused me not to sleep very well. So as it stands right now it is almost 9am and I am still in my jammies!
I have to go back to getting up diligently at 5:30 every day because I need to! I often find myself thinking that I shouldn't have to get up that early because I don't have a job to go to. But that isn't true! Raising my kids and caring for my home and family is my job and I shouldn't be late for that any more than I would be late for a job outside of my home.
I am going to start to try and get up again. To fill my mornings with bible reading and prayer. Because when I do this my days go by so much better.
My to do list for today:
-Finish the laundry.
-Finish sewing my skirt.
-Start making lists for packing for our vacation.
-Get dinner started.
-Change our sheets.
-Work on my schedule some more.
Proverbs 31:15 "She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meant to her household, and a portion to her maidens."

Just call me Miss Susie Homemaker
I have totally lost track of all time. Three kids is surely an adventure! I have spent the last month or so trying to create and improve upon a type of schedule or a routine that will make all of our lives much easier!
This can't be a long post because it is actually the kids bedtime. But a comment from Caren caused me to realize that I have sorely neglected my blog! I have decided there is going to be a bit of a difference to my blog. But it is going to take some time to get it like that!
The Lord has really been convicting me to become an even better wife and mother than I have been. I have been studying Proverbs 31 and will be moving on to Titus 2 when I am done. I have not always found joy in the life that God has chosen to give me. God called a woman to be something very important I believe and I think that is the job of being a wife and a mother. Sadly many young girls aren't trained as they should be in how to keep a home, husband and family. How best to take care of them and run a household. More value is put on where that daughter should go to college or what she should do in her life before marriage! Now don't get me wrong. There is a time and a place for everything. And an education can go a long way! But a girl should also be taught the art of homemaking and mothering because it is truly an art.
I plan on working on my own homemaking and mothering skills so as to better equip my own daughters in this before their dad and I entrust them with the man that God has saved for them.
Lastly... A list of new websites that I am finding very interesting and informative.

Quick updates!
Life sure is hectic with three little ones to take care of all the time! Emma is closing in on 3 years old, Josiah is 14 months and Abby is now 6 weeks! I can't believe that it has been six weeks since she was born!
The last three weeks have been pretty busy as well... We have all had horrible colds. Emma was first, then she gave it to Josiah who ended up with RSV/bronchiolitis and breathing treatments. Then Abby got sick with RSV/bronchiolitis and I spent a night in the hospital with her! At the same time Mom and Dad had nasty colds. Mom ended up with a nasty ear infection... and then at some point in the past two weeks four of us have had the stomach flu... Emma eeked by unscathed by the bug!
On a much brighter and happier note... Abby started smiling!!! At 5 weeks! What an awesome reward that was! Josiah waited till 9 weeks to smile so it was nice to see such a cute newborn smile! Josiah started walking this week. I can forsee this will be a new challenge to our every day life. Abby is also sleeping most of the night and I tend to only have to nurse her once in the middle of the night... very nice! Josiah on the other hand is not sleeping well at all again! He went through a great period right before and after Abby was born. Then the molars started coming in and he isn't sleeping again... Making life a little hard at night!
Emma is potty trained during the day now. Pees almost always make it to the potty... We are still having a hard time with the poos... but it will come... It is definitely nice not to have to change her yucky toddler diapers anymore! I am hoping that she will be fully trained by the end of the summer since I would like to look into preschool for her to get out of the house a couple times a week... she is a social butterfly who hates being confined!
And last but not least... Pete and I have decided to go vegetarian. For health reasons as well as ethical reasons. If you want see why we decided to do this check out www.meat.org . Be careful if you have a queasy tummy... the video is very disturbing. I am hoping to be able to blog about our new journey into vegetarianism! This week will be our first veggie grocery trip... I'll share the fun when we get back... for a fun look at some veggie lunches check out my new favorite blog! http://veganlunchbox.blogspot.com

She's here!!
Turns out I didn't need that induction last Thursday! When I called the office at 3:3o last Thursday they told me there weren't any rooms available for and induction again and told me to call back on Monday.
The whole day I had been having contractions every 7 minutes or so but just chalked it up to what is "normal" for me. So I was pretty disappointed when I found out I was going to have to wait 4 more days to try and schedule the induction again!
About 20 minutes after I hung up the phone with the nurse I started getting contractions that were 2-3 minutes apart while I was up moving around and I couldn't do anything during the contractions. That was at 4pm. By 5pm they were the same and so I sat down to see what they would do.... They stuck around!
Long story short... It was really intense and really fast... The labor really started at 4 and she was born at 8:03pm... Four hour labor!!! And pushed with just one contraction! I will write out all the details soon.

They put me on hold!
For two nights in a row there hasn't been any rooms available for inductions at the hospital. And as of this morning my midwife is not in town. At first I was kind of upset about it. Then the more I thought about it I started to hope that I would either be induced today by a different midwife or at the very least I would go into labor this weekend while she is gone...
I know that sounds so harsh but I am currently mad at her! And as a hormonal pregnant woman I would say it's my perrogative! We used to work together 6 years ago... and I think due to the fact that we have a personal relationship is kind of hindering our medical relationship. There have been times she has said things that really hurt my feelings... For example when I would have complaints she would make comments like "Well, Rebekah, you are just like the princess and the pea and you tend to feel everything and it makes you uncomfortable." Okay even if I were a whiner... why would you say that to your patient. I doubt she would say that to any of her other patients.
There have been other things... but then Tuesday when I went in for an appointment we sat and talked about induction... But first I told her about the hard time I have been having with depression and how I am so sure that if I had the baby it would help tremendously because I am becoming so depressed because of all the false labor that creates false hope.... She sighed and said "We agreed to wait till 41 weeks before we talked induction." I said "No... you offered 41 weeks. Therefore as my care provider I assumed you were telling me that was the absolute soonest it could be done. But I know better and I feel like it is important to my mental health to talk about it sooner." She got mad... then got quiet. Then my mom asked her at what point we need to start worrying about me not just the baby. Especially since I am so close to my due date. She got really defensive and said she was thinking about me when she had tried to augment my labor two weeks ago. And my mom argued back that, that had been two weeks ago and I had endured another two weeks of endless and pointless contractions. At this point she finally said she would check with the docs about doing an induction that night or the next. I told her I wasn't looking to be induced that day... but maybe the beginning of next week. She just told me if we are going to do it we may as well do it.
I could tell she was mad about it. She sounded okay on Tuesday when she told me there wasn't a room available and told me she was sorry. But then yesterday when I called to check and see if there was room she told me there wasn't. So I asked her what now. She told me they don't do inductions on Friday, Saturday or Sundays. I told her tomorrow is Thursday! She said oh yeah and then told me that if I wanted to I could call and chat with the midwife that is on call tomorrow (today) and see if she would be willing to head up my induction... I was shocked to say the least... I really feel like it isn't my responsibilty to "check" with the midwife today... If she truly cared about me as she said she does and if she wanted to help me to get past all this by inducing me she would have passed it all on to the other midwives and told me they would contact me in the morning... But nope! It's up to me to call, explain and then ask...
Anyways... If I am not in labor by lunchtime I am thinking about calling the midwife and talking to her about it all... I don't think that another midwife will agree to it... But I can at least check into it.
So still no baby. And no definite info on if I will be induced or not. I am praying that God will allow it to all happen the way He sees fit! But sometimes it isn't the way we want it to happen... is it?

It'll be over soon
I had an appointment today with my midwife. I told her that, emotionally, I just couldn't handle all the contractions anymore. I always think that I am in labor and then hours later when it hasn't progressed then I get so down because this wasn't it again!
For the past week and a half I have been having family come and sit with me during the day because I was so despondant after the failed labor experience that they were all very worried about me. It was hard for me to admit that I needed the help and the company.
Anyways... back to the original topic. After explaining all that to her I told her I just didn't think I could keep going on with all the contractions and always wondering if I was in labor or not... It is never definite for me, never has been! Not to mention it is painful and becomes very draining and tiring over a course of days.
So the final decision was to induce me. This is not exactly my ideal thing to do. I don't like the idea of inducing labor or "forcing" the baby out and I know tons of people are against induction! But I am to the point that I am going crazy! Literally.
The original plan was to induce me tonight. But there were not any rooms available except for the one they try to keep open when it is really busy. Then the midwife just called and said it definitely won't be tonight because they just filled that room and are going to have to start using the overflow rooms! So tomorrow will be another day and we will see if there is an open room tomorrow and go from there. The hope is that they will be able to induce me just by putting some hormones next to my cervix because I am contracting but my cervix is weird and is anywhere from 2-5 cm depending on if I am being checked during a contraction... Then they wouldn't have to use pitocin... which is what I am hoping and praying for.
There is still a chance I won't be able to go in tomorrow either! In which case I think I would have to wait till next Monday to try again... If I have to I will make it to then. Because now I can see a definite planned end to everything. I hope to be able to share wonderful news about Abby by the weekend!
There is always the off chance that I happen to go into labor tonight or tomorrow! Wouldn't that just be funny!

Nada, zilch, nothin'
Still no baby. Lots of false labor. But no baby.
I am having a very difficult time staying positive. Not because of being pregnant but because of all the contractions I have had. On this past Monday night I had them all night long, literally, 2-3 minutes apart. Then they started to space out and I called the midwife crying and telling her I couldn't do this anymore.
Then there was yesterday. ALL DAY LONG. I had contractions that were 6-7 minutes apart. Painful, uncomfortable, take your breath away, contractions. But did I have a baby?? NO!
And then today... The contractions never really stopped. But there is no pattern today. Some are 5 minutes, some are 10 minutes. Either way it's tiring and every time I have a contraction I just pray that they will stay and do something or just go away.
Furthermore. I am 39 weeks today. And while I know technically I am not due until next Sunday I am having a hard time emotionally with this because I had never even made it to 38 weeks previously. So I have seen two more numbers go by that I have never had to experience. And wow... I am glad I didn't have to do this the last two times. I can't believe how incredibly uncomfortable I am!
So if I don't go into labor by the 21st they are going to induce. Normally I would say no... but at this point I don't care anymore... I just want this to be over. I am at the end of my rope emotionally and mentally and anything is better than where I am at right now. And boy... two more weeks of this seems like eternity. I just keep looking back at the week that just went by and reminding myself it went by fairly quickly.
I will try and keep everyone posted! Hopefully Abby will come by the end of the week sometime!

A quick update
On this past Thursday I went into labor at about 3 pm. I labored for a few hours before I called the doulas and my mom and the babysitter. By 11pm my contractions were 2-3 minutes apart so we packed up and went to the hospital. I was 6cm so being that this is my third baby they rushed around to get everything ready because they were sure I was going to have the baby very shortly.
Then... things started to slow down. By the early morning my contractions had spaced way out and things started to stop. By breakfast my contractions were nearly non-existant and when the midwife checked me my cervix had closed back up to 2-3 cm.
I was devestated. This is just about my worst fear. That I will go into labor and things will stop and they will send me home (all based of course on the crappy start and stop labors I had with my other two). So they spent the day trying to get my labor going again. First we tried stripping my membranes, enemas and nipple stimulation. They started the contractions back up but not too close. By midmorning the midwife asked me if I wanted to try pitocin. I didn't really want to but chose to go ahead and try that. I had pitocin for 6 hours. Painful, strong contractions and I tried to stay positive. At 5 the midwife checked me... My cervix had done nothing... So we went home. No Abby.
So here I am again... At home with no baby. I am pretty down and just trying to stay positive but it is really hard!
As soon as I have good news I will definitely update everyone!

37 weeks and 4 days
That is what I am today.... Emma was born at 37w 5d and Josiah was born at 37w 6d. And I am 100% sure that isn't going to happen with this little one.
I have an appointment with my midwife today. I plan on BEGGING her to strip my membranes today. I can't take the contractions anymore. They hurt, they are annoying and I am sick of wondering if every single contraction is the start of the real thing. I have been trying some other "natural" induction type things this week... NOT WORKING!
I guess it's just as well that Abby has waited this long. One of my doula's was out of town for the last 5 days. I am glad that she will be here now when I finally do go into labor. She will be back in town sometime this evening.
Although a tax deduction would be nice.. I really don't care about it at all as much as I care about not going further with this pregnancy than I have before... It is really hard on me right now to think that I may go past 38 weeks when I have never even made it 38 weeks.
Hopefully I will have some kind of good news soon!

Merry Christmas!
The conversation over breakfast this morning between Pete and I pertained to our poor neglected fish. They rarely get fed (maybe 3 times a week?)... we forget! So Pete looked at the little tank and said "Do you think the fish at least deserve to eat on Christmas??"
So Merry Christmas everyone!!! (And feed your fish!)

I am still here...
It's been awhile and I am sorry. But I have spent the better part of the last week just feeling sorry for myself. I am tired, cranky, huge, worn out, sick of pregnancy... did I mention cranky???
I made it to 36 weeks on Sunday. Exactly one more week than that crazy midwife said I would make it?? And wouldn't you know I was a bit peeved at the fact?? I mean seriously if someone tells you that there is a chance that you might not have to pregnant much longer wouldn't you be a bit excited about it? I mean, yes, the longer the baby is in the better but... I am really tired of it all! I get so tired out just doing the littlest things. It is so annoying! I tire out and get totally out of breath just showering and getting dressed. Getting the kids ready to go out the door somewhere??? Someone call crane!
At any rate... Yesterday was Josiah's birthday! He is one! Yeah!!! We made it a year with our little boy. And it certainly doesn't feel like a year. I plan on doing an entry with some really cute pics of our boy but I am trying to think of what I want to write!
Everyone wanted me to have the baby yesterday so that they could share a birthday... Thank God that didn't happen! Now everyone is rooting for Christmas day. And that would be fine except that my doula is out of town from this coming Saturday till next Thursday... And since I am paying the lady good money I would kind of like her to be there!
So here is my plan. Keep my legs crossed till next Thursday at which time I will have another appointment with my midwife. Then I will ask her...no... BEG her to strip my membranes (I will be 37w4d(Go ahead flame me I don't care... both of my other kids were born at that time!)). Then I will come home utilize my dear dear hubby... and hopefully by midnight be in labor! At which point my doual will be home and everything will work out because how awesome would it be to have Pete have the weekend (three days I might add!) off when the baby is born... But of course since we all know that is way to convienent I am sure it won't work....
Oh and did I mention that just about everyday I have contractions.... timeable... for hours at a time... that get pretty painful?? Just not fair I tell ya... it's a tease... a tease that makes it even harder than it already is to still be pregnant... Come out already Abby! The outside is better! Really!

The end is just in sight!
Yesterday I hit the 35 week mark.... so much for that midwife that thought I wouldn't make it till then! While it is still kind of early to have the baby I won't have to go to the hospital where there is a NICU. I still have contractions that are timeable. Some are uncomfortable. But looking back to my pregnancy with Josiah I don't think they are as bad. I do know that by this time with Josiah I was being kept awake at night from the contractions.... So far that hasn't happened. (Knock on wood!)
Now if I can just get past the last few weeks! Emma and Josiah were born just a couple days short of 38 weeks. Um that's 2 1/2 weeks from now! I am 100% sure I am NOT ready for a new baby. That is what is torturing me! I want so badly to be done being pregnant. I am tired of being uncomfortable. Tired of the horrendous heartburn (the worst I have ever had it.) Tired of the constant trips to the bathroom. Just tired of sharing my body with the baby! But when I think of the alternative... baby on the outside making it three kiddos to take care of.... I am scared... crapless!
I do know that it wouldn't be so bad and I wouldn't be dreading it or fearing it if Josiah were older. I wasn't worried at all about taking care of he and Emma when I was getting close to the end. I just figured that Emma would be my little helper. And she was! But Josiah??? That is a totally different story! He is a mama's boy through and through. And while I think it is so sweet how much he needs me and clings to me it is upsetting me to think about how it will be when he realizes there is another baby taking his mommy's attention. If I dwell on it long enough I cry!
Then of course there is the sleeping situation that is still unpredictable at best! Last week he slept in his playpen all night 5 out of 7 nights. And while he still whimpers in the night and we still have to get up and give him his binky we don't have to always pick him up and be up with him for hours on end anymore. He was sleeping with us just fine at first but started to get really restless and wouldn't sleep! He wanted to play! So sleeping with us is now just reserved for the nights when we can't console him no matter what we do. This is a vast improvment to what we were dealing with two months ago. But I still worry about how it is all going to work when the baby comes. We don't want to put Josiah back in his crib in the kids room yet until he can sleep without crying out.... That just opens a whole other can of worms called Emma! So he will be in our room for a while after the baby is born. I can just see it now! Baby cries... Josiah cries.
At any rate... I am still excited about meeting Abby and seeing what color hair she has and who she looks like. I am really interested in seeing what her size is in comparison to Josiah. (Um... still a little scared of labor... memory too fresh in my mind!) I can't wait to give nursing another try... and this time do it! I am anticipating having a little baby to hold and cuddle. Oh and I am REALLY excited to put all the little cloth diapers on her! So I am still normal but I have fears!
So as it stands today I am 35w 1d. If Abby graces us with her presence when Emma and Josiah did that is just 2 weeks and 3-4 days from now... Yikes!! I better get the rest of my preparation done! Because if the next 2-3 weeks go by as fast as the last few have then I will be posting pics of Abby in no time!

Still hanging in there
I am still around.... but boy am I getting tired of all this!
In lieu of complaining about contractions and such I decided I would talk about what I am getting done! I am supposed to be taking it easy. But I figured that on the off chance Abby makes an early appearance maybe I should get some stuff done!
Yesterday I managed to clean our bedroom! You can see the floor now! And then I emptied my small dresser so that I could put Abby's things in it. Now I am down a dresser. But it was easier than going out and buying one! I did a bunch of laundry... but you couldn't tell by looking at the pile that still has to be done! While cleaning up and sorting baby clothes I found a bag full of white flannel fitteds... size small... leftover from Emma that never got used with Si because I couldn't find them... I was so happy! Now I don't feel pressured to sew a bunch more size smalls. I can just concentrate on getting things ready to go for the baby. Especially since I have put it off for so long!
On Monday and Tuesday I ended up sewing two diaper bags. And as soon as I can get our dumb digital camera to work I will put up pics... One is all pink... Pete hates it! The other one is a blue corduroy with purple and green flowers with a green inside. He says he can tolerate that one! So now I can pack Abby's bag and then I suppose I should think about getting mine packed. Although like I said before I never use what I pack!
Now I just have three diapers sitting unfinished. A pair of wool pants unfinished and a soaker unfinished. If I can finish that in the next two-three weeks I will be ready by Christmas... That's my goal! Although talking to some people they all think I will never make it till Christmas. I on other hand the pessimist in the family thinks is will be January. I would not want to get my hopes up only to have them dashed on New's Years Eve!!
So I guess instead of sitting here on the computer maybe I will get up and do some work! I only have three more days to get through and I will be 35 weeks.... And past the point of no return!

It's not time yet!
So yesterday I was noticing a lot of mucus... um down there... I started paying better attention and realized that I was losing chunks of it when I went to the bathroom. And to top all that off I had a good 3-4 hours yesterday of contractions that were 4 minutes apart.
Now I know I have had this problem in the past... but I never lost my mucus plug this early... And so now I am beginning to wonder if I should really take it easy. If I can get to this Sunday it would be so much better. The baby wouldn't be at a high risk of problems. And then I would be able to go to my hospital with my midwife and not the big city hospital with the NICU.
I am having a lot of feelings towards all this. There is a small part of me that kind of wishes she would come early because frankly I am tired of being pregnant. While this pregnancy hasn't been that bad physically, it has been a hard pregnancy emotionally and I am ready to be done. I also have fears that if she is born early there will be problems, she won't make it or it will compromise my one last chance to breastfeed. Ideally I would like to see her stay in there for at least for 2 1/2 more weeks. That would put me at 37 weeks. And then a lot of my fears would subside. But still.... I feel guilty about that one small part of me that wishes she would just go ahead and come if that is what is going on so I can be done with it all...
At any rate. I am wishing for one of two things right now. Either the contractions and other weird signs of labor go away until they are necessary. OR. I just go ahead and go into labor so I can get it all over with...
Don't know which one I want more. But I sure would like one or the other... Not both!
Just keeping my fingers crossed that I at least stay pregnant till Sunday 12 AM.
(Oh and another couple weeks to get Josiah sleeping better would be nice too!)
